The last several months, stretching back to the end of last winter (not this most recent one) have generally featured above normal temperatures. In fact, this has been one of the warmest year or more periods in our area ever. That being said, even in situations like this meteorology can often surprise us with set ups that support isolated showers and slightly cooler temperatures. This week will be a good example of that, as an upper level low will retrograde and then meander over the Northeast United States from essentially Tuesday through the beginning of Friday. The lack of moisture and forcing for precipitation will ultimately save our area from heavy precipitation, and airmass modification over time means no real "cold air" will infiltrate, but we'll definitely be able to notice some cooler conditions this week. By the end of the week and into next weekend, the system will finally begin to move off to our east and northeast, and the weather will begin to change. Most forecast models are indicating the return of warmer weather by that point. Pictured right: NAM model showing the upper air system sitting over our area during the middle of the week (image shows 500mb heights and vorticity).
