Standard time is here again, and it is completely dark as we write the PM update this Sunday Evening at New York Metro Weather. Another crisp and cool day is coming to an end, as temperatures today barely scraped into the 50's for highs with the occasional gusty north wind making it feel cooler than it was to begin with. That being said, skies were finally more clear and we were able to get much more hours of sunshine in today which made for a nice day overall and a good close to the weekend. The forecast for the very beginning of the work week doesn't look quite as nice, as an ocean storm backs it's way into the area. The system is not expected to have it's full effect on the New York Metro as dry air over our area should mitigate the system's westward progress. Regardless, a very cold upper level low over the area and a cold surface flow will keep temperatures very cool..in the 40's..in the urban areas, and in the 30's inland with the chance that some snow could mix in with the rain in higher elevations and interior areas. After this, things clear out and the warmer trend begins, as we rise towards 60 on Wednesday.
Tonight: Frost and freezing conditions north and west as the 32 degree readings drop into the immediate suburbs again. North winds ranging from 5 to 10 miles per hour under mostly clear skies initially, but clouds building in east to west as an ocean storm approaches the area. The water vapor satellite to the right depicts the ocean storm attempting to back westward towards our area.
Tomorrow (Monday): Rain becoming likely east to west during the morning and continuing into the afternoon. Interior/north and west locations may see snow flakes mixing in at times, especially early and towards the end of the storm. North winds will be gusty, 15 to 20 miles per hour, closer to 20 to 30 miles per hour on the coast of Long Island and Connecticut.
Tomorrow Night (Monday Night) : A chance of showers or snow showers north and west/at higher elevations continues through about 1 or 2 AM. North winds still gusty at 15 to 25 mph. Gradual clearing by morning.
