The backdoor cold front that was near the area on Thursday will once again make it's presence felt on  Friday, inhibiting the daytime heating with cooler air moving in both aloft and at the surface. Back door cold fronts are complicated, but we'll try and break it down. Back door cold fronts get their name from the fact that they move in an a-typical direction, from east to west, or through the "back door", and bring in cooler air.  Essentially, the back door front will be established over Central PA, and the temperatures from that point on east will be cooler. The heat will be bottled up over the Central US and Ohio Valley for the time being. Forecast models are struggling a bit with cloud cover forecasts, but one thing is for sure: temperatures will be a few degrees cooler on Friday than they have been earlier in the week. Winds at the surface will be off the southeast, keeping the weather even cooler at the beach. The sun will shine, though, so the day will not be ruined.

Today (Friday): The sun will be in and out, but the temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than the past few days for sure. By afternoon, the east wind will likely kick off a seabreeze, so you may want to have a long sleeved shirt or sweatshirt if you're going to be out and about this Friday evening.

Tonight (Friday Night): The atmosphere actually begins to recover a bit, and temperatures will be warming in the mid levels, just not necessarily at the surface. Additionally, models have a good bit of clouds adverting into the area by the overnight. Typically, clouds prevent good radiating of temperatures from occurring--so temperatures will likely not get much below 60 degrees, even in the interior, where temperatures will likely bottom out in the upper 50's.

Warmer Weekend: An upper level ridge will build into the area by Saturday and Sunday which, barring the presence of clouds, could allow the mercury to reach towards the 90 degree mark once again. After all, it's still calendar summer and we have had 90 degree temperatures later than early September. There is also the threat for some scattered severe thunderstorms on Sunday, but at the time it doesn't look like they'll be widespread. We'll keep you updated.
