Sunday Night (tonight) will likely end up being one of, if not the coldest night of the year thus far and probably
by far. Forecast low temperatures tonight in the city are in the single digits (the low single digits at that), and away from the city are forecast to drop below zero with relative ease. Inland areas have forecasted low temperatures between -5 and -10 F. That's nearly dangerous cold. Make sure you bundle up overnight, and be prepared to start the car early for the morning commute and dress appropriately. The next threat for precipitation comes mid-week, as a storm system tracks up the eastern seaboard. There is quite a bit of uncertainty still with this system, with some models tracking it far enough inland to bring our area some snow and then a whole bunch of rain, others indicating a significant snowfall, and others leaving us mostly dry with the storm tracking out to sea. Needless to say, the threat for significant snowfall, and a high impact event, is there..especially inland for the heavier snow. Also, should the system provide rain (more likely on the shores and eastern LI), flooding would become a concern. So, stay tuned..for now it's all speculation. We'll be on top of it!
