Most probably spent this Thursday digging out from what was another major snowstorm, which impacted the  area last night (Wednesday Night) into this Thursday morning. New York City's Central Park received 19 inches of new snow--making this the snowiest January on record. Newark, New Jersey...Laguardia, New York...Islip, New York...and Bridgeport, Connecticut also set the snowiest January of all time records with yesterdays storm. Many areas have snow depths over 30 inches, especially in Northeast New Jersey, where some areas are nearing or have exceeded 70 inches of snow on the season. With most areas above 50, and nearer to 60, this has been one of the snowiest winters of all time to date. In fact, it is out-running the snowiest winter of all time (1995-1996) by a good margin. With more snow on the horizon, it is hard to not get excited about the possibility that we could be witnessing one of the snowiest winters of all time. New York City needs to reach roughly 75 inches to topple the all time record. For the next few days, winter will have a complete lock-down on our area. Several shortwaves (weaker) will slide east/southeast past the area, sparking off the potential for snow showers. Saturday and Sunday will feature a stronger shortwave passage, bringing the possibly of a few inches of snowfall. Temperatures should run below average (what else is new) through the weekend, with high's in the low 30's and lows in the low 20's. Fair weather is expected Monday and Tuesday, but another potential snowstorm looms on the horizon Wednesday and Thursday of next week.

Tonight (Thursday Night): Partly to mostly cloudy, with lows in the mid 20's. Winds west and around 5 miles per hour.

Friday: Mostly cloudy, with light snow likely in the afternoon. High's in the low to mid 30's. Winds northeast at 5 to 10 miles per hour, turning south at 5 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New snow accumulation of around a trace possible.
