Snow in Blairstown, New Jersey
First of all, Happy Thanksgiving to all of our loyal readers and bloggers. This morning we have been flooded with reports of snow and sleet throughout the area as light to moderate precipitation overspreads the region. Why is it snowing so early in the season? The secret lies in the cold and dry airmass which allowed the precipitation to occur under evaporational cooling conditions. Many areas reported temperature drops of several degrees once the snow and sleet started. There is some warmer air working into the mid-levels of the atmosphere, which is why several areas have reported sleet as well (the rain re-freezes before it reaches the surface). The National Weather service has issued a Special Weather Statement for these areas to urge caution when traveling. Be cautious as the roads could be slick at times. Most of all, we are thankful for all of our readers and bloggers who make this entire website possible. Have a safe and blessed holiday. The Forecast: A low pressure system will pass rather close to the region, and as the warm front passes our region temperatures should rise into the 50's on Friday. A cold front will quickly approach from the west, and usher in some of the coldest air of the season. Low temperatures overnight Friday into Saturday, as well as Saturday into Sunday will be in the 20's in almost all areas away from the coast and Long Island. Elevated areas will likely drop into the upper teens or lower 20's in some areas.
