The past few days have been relatively calm in our forecast area, and despite the snow and rain on Thanksgiving, the holiday weekend was rather mundane as well. The weather is changing quickly, though (isn't it always?), and clouds have built into the region this morning. A storm system to our southwest is organizing quickly, and will move to our northwest overnight tonight into Wednesday. Moisture will increase and winds will turn southerly, and heavy rain is forecast to impact our area Wednesday afternoon. The rain could begin as early as this afternoon, but is expected to remain light to moderate and somewhat scattered. The system features strong winds just above the surface, so expect gusty conditions with the heavy rain as well. There is the possibility of an isolated thunderstorm which could mix down some stronger wind gusts. Behind the cold front, very cold air swarms into the region for the middle of the week. By the weekend, the pattern will be wintry, with a storm system organizing in the Central Plains. This system is forecast to slide eastward, and our eyes will remain peeled as this system could become the first real snow maker of the winter season. Let's not forget, meteorological winter begins tomorrow. Stay tuned.
