...This is not an official National Weather Service product and should not be confused for an official watch, warning or advisory...
In New Jersey: Bergen, Passaic, Morris, Essex, Hudson, Union, Middlesex, Monmouth, Mercer, Somerset, Warren, Ocean, Burlington, Sussex, Hunterdon
In New York: Nassau, Suffolk, Queens, Kings, Richmond, Manhattan, Bronx, Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putnam
In: Connecticut: Fairfield, New Haven, Litchfield
...Heavy rains and thunder possible this evening...
*Discussion... the approach of a warm frontal boundary will be accompanied by increased support for heavy rain and convection, including the potential for some thunderstorms. Rain with embedded thunderstorms is increasing in coverage upstream and should continue to spread into the region over the next few hours. Short term models are indicative of a swath of precipitation across the area this evening and overnight. The temperature differential along the frontal boundary suggests that thunderstorms will be more likely south of Central New Jersey..but heavy rain and thunder is possible as far north as the metro area.
*Precipitation Type...Rain with thunder
*Timing...Rain should increase in intensity by 8:00-9:00pm this evening...from south to north..and continue until around 4:00am..again ending south to north.
*Winds...Gusty in the heavier rain and thunderstorms..generally 10 to 20 miles per hour.
*Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...Be prepared for the potential for heavy rain, which may cause travel difficulty and urban, small stream, and low lying street flooding. In addition...lightning strikes are not out of the question. If a storm approaches, stay indoors and away from windows. No severe weather is expected, but lightning is a dangerous killer regardless of whether the storm is severe or not.
