258am EST March 13th, 2010
In New Jersey: Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Union, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean,
In New York: Queens, Kings, Richmond, Manhattan, Bronx, Southern Westchester, Nassau, Suffolk
In Connecticut: Southern Fairfield, Southern New Haven
...Significant wind gusts possible Saturday and Saturday Night...
A strong storm system will approach the area today and bring heavy, windswept rain to the area this afternoon and evening. In addition to the heavy rains, significant winds are expected as the strong upper level system approaches. A strong gradient with a high pressure to the north will funnel strengthening easterly winds into the area. Wind gusts in excess of 45 to 55 miles per hour, if not higher in some locales on Long Island and the New Jersey shore, are expected. The winds are expected to diminish slowly later Saturday evening.
It is recommended that all loose objects outdoors that are not tied down be brought inside as they could be hazardous with these strong winds. Please exercise cautions and expect delays on bridges around the area. In addition, the wet ground and heavy rains could cause trees to fall.
A High Wind Alert means that high winds, which could cause danger and hazardous conditions, are expected over the next 24 hours. These winds should generally exceed 45 miles per hour in frequent gusts. Please keep abreast of the situation.
