Flood Warning
3:30pm EST March 13th, 2010

Flood Warning in effect until 7:00pm for the following counties...

In New Jersey: Passaic, Morris, Somerset, Middlesex, Essex, Hudson, Union

In New York: Manhattan, Richmond

As of around 3:20pm March 13th, 2010, doppler radar indicated the continued development of extremely heavy rainfall rates over the area. This rain is expected to continue over the next few hours. Rainfall rates of nearly 1 inch per hour are possible within these bands. This will occur atop the 1" or more of rain that has already fallen across the Warning area. The result will be the potential for rapid river rises, as well as small stream, urban and low lying area flooding. Driving conditions may become extremely hazardous as rainfall rates create near zero visibility.

Do NOT drive into standing water. Small streams and creeks and low lying areas will flood rapidly. Most flooding deaths occur in vehicles. Be smart--do not drive into water on a roadway. Please stay tuned for further updates on the situation.

A Flood Warning means that flooding of small streams, creeks, or rivers is expected over the next few hours or is occurring. This is a potentially dangerous situation. Keep abreast of the situation and check back for further updates.
