Blizzard Alert
10:00pm Tuesday February 25th, 2010

...This is not an official National Weather Service product and should not
be confused for an official watch, warning or advisory...

In New Jersey: Sussex, Passaic, Bergen, Essex, Morris, Union

In New York: Orange, Rockland, Westchester

...Blizzard Alert in effect through 8am Friday...

...Rare interior blizzard conditions overnight Thursday into Friday Morning...

A significant coastal storm will continue to amplify rapidly and be pulled northwestward into Connecticut this evening and overnight into Friday Morning. This storm will continue to deepen rapidly with significant upper level support.

Heavy snowfall is expected to continue overnight into Friday Morning across the Blizzard Alert area. The strong surface low pressure and upper level dynamics will lead to developing windy conditions overnight and Friday Morning..continuing until the low pressure passes south of the area. Although the snowfall may vary in intensity, significant blowing and drifting of the new snow is possible and may directly impact the overnight and morning commutes. Although this system may not  verify blizzard conditions across the entire Alert area, the impact of the system..loweirng of visibilities...heavy snow rates...and significance of the low pressure and upper level setup..warrants this issuance for the next several hours.

For more information on snowfall totals expected across the area...please see the Technical Forecast Discussion or storm total snowfall forecast maps.

...A Blizzard Alert means that blizzard or near blizzard conditions are expected to occur over the next 36 hours or are occurring. Significant amounts of snow coupled with extremely low visibilities and high winds will make travel  nearly impossible. Travel is not recommended. Please refer to your winter  weather safety procedures...
