...Snowstorm Warning in remains in effect until 8am Saturday...

A significant coastal storm will continue to strengthen off the Long Island coast. The low pressure is expected to rapidly deepen and retrograde northwestward towards Connecticut early Friday.

Snow should continue to fall across the forecast area through the remainder of the evening into Friday morning at least, possible Friday afternoon in some areas. Some light snow could continue into Saturday. The heavier rates of snow should be focused around Thursday evening into early Friday morning.

Total snowfall accumulations are currently expected to range from 12 to 20 inches across Northeast New Jersey, Northwest New Jersey, and Southeast New York. We expect snow totals near the New York metro area to range from 8 to 12 inches, higher west and lower east and northeast. Generally 10 to 14 inches is expected to fall across our Central New Jersey counties. The total snowfall will taper greatly east of that...towards Eastern Long Island where 3 to 6 inches of snow is forecast. Locally higher amounts are possible in heavier bands of precipitation across Northern New Jersey and Southeast New York. The heavy snow rates and winds may make travel extremely difficult if not impossible at times.

...A Snowstorm Warning means that significant snow, sleet, or ice accumulations
are expected over the next 36 hours or are imminent. These will significantly impact  travel, which may become extremely difficult if not impossible at times. Continue to  monitor the latest forecasts...
