New York MetroWeather
High Wind Statement
200pm Sunday January 24th, 2010
...This is not an official National Weather Service product and should not
be confused for an official watch, warning, or advisory...
In New York: Westchester, Manhattan, Queens, Kings, Richmond, Bronx, Nassau, Suffolk
In New Jersey: Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Union, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean,
In Connecticut: Coastal Fairfield, Coastal New Haven
...High Wind Statement in effect through 2pm Monday..
A strong low pressure system will pass northwest of the forecast region overnight
Sunday into Monday morning. Strong southerly winds will advect in a warm and
moist airmass as a cold front approaches from the west. Prior to the approach of
the cold front, the strengthening low level jet coupled with strong upper level winds
will lead to strong winds just above the surface across the area. Any convection
or thunderstorms as well as heavier rains suggests these winds could mix down to
the surface, especially near and invof the cold front. Winds generally could exceed
25 to 35 kts across the region during this time frame.
It is recommended that all loose objects outdoors that are not tied down be brought
inside as they could be hazardous with these strong winds. Please exercise cautions
and expect delays on bridges around the area.
A High Wind Statement means that high winds, which could cause danger and
hazardous conditions, are expected over the next 24 hours. These winds should
generally exceed 35 miles per hour in frequent gusts. Please keep abreast of
the situation.
