...High Wind Statement in effect through 1pm Sunday...
A strong low pressure system is forecast to strengthen off the New England coast
and then back westward towards New England this weekend. As the system passes
our region, strong northwest winds will develop behind the storm. In addition to
very cold temperatures, the system will force abnormally strong winds as mentioned
above. Winds are expected to increase slowly this morning, continue today, and then
increase again by Saturday Night. Winds could gust as high as 50 miles per hour
Saturday Night.
It is recommended that all loose objects outdoors that are not tied down be brought
inside as they could be hazardous with these strong winds. Please exercise cautions
and expect delays on bridges around the area. In addition, expect any standing
water to be frozen; and expect very cold temperatures. The winds will make it
feel like the single digits--to near zero or below inland.
A High Wind Statement means that high winds, which could cause danger and
hazardous conditions, are expected over the next 24 hours. These winds should
generally exceed 35 miles per hour in frequent gusts. Please keep abreast of
the situation.
