Regional Radar 5:15pm 11/16/2010
As of late this afternoon, the National Weather Service has issued Wind Advisories for many portions of the New York Metro area. These wind advisories are in effect for Wednesday Afternoon and evening, mainly in relation to the passage of a strong cold front and the winds behind it, associated with a strong surface low pressure as well as the same system providing very strong winds in the upper and mid levels of the atmosphere. In addition to the wind, heavy rain is likely overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, especially Wednesday morning. Near the cold front, an isolated thunderstorm cannot be ruled out. Within these thunderstorms, some stronger wind gusts could come to the surface. The system is expected to continue moving northeast, with the cold front passing the region Wednesday afternoon, and clearing by later Wednesday afternoon into evening. Stay tuned for updates on watches/warnings and advisories through the evening and overnight. Wednesday: Heavy rain in the morning, then a chance of rain in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Winds southeast 15 to 25 miles per hour, then becoming west at 15 to 30 miles per hour. High near 64.
