After a week's hiatus (maybe less depending on how you count it), the heat is forecast to return to our area by the middle of this upcoming week. Cooler temperatures have prevailed over the last handful of days with northwesterly winds keeping temperatures down to near seasonal averages. However, as a ridge of high pressure builds from the Central United States on eastward, southwest winds at the surface will usher in very hot air which has been bottled up over the Central United States for several days. The warmer trend will first be noticed on Monday when temperatures should reach into the lower 80's for highs. Tuesday will be another tick warmer, with temperatures into the mid 80's. Finally, by Wednesday, temperatures should reach towards or possibly above 90 degrees. Thursday could be the warmest day of the week with temperatures in the mid 90's, before a cold front nears the region on Friday and brings with it a chance of showers and storms. If you're looking to travel to the beach some time during this week, Wednesday and Thursday both look like slam-dunk beach days. Despite the cool water this time of year, westerly winds forecast on both days should keep the sea-breeze at bay, at least through the early to middle part of the afternoon, allowing the beaches to warm into the 70's and 80's during peak heating hours. If you're staying at home, get ready to flip on the AC or jump in the pool (if you can). Make sure to stay with us this week for any potential heat-related advisories.  Your text forecast at a glance is below.
