NAM forecast 10m winds thru tonight |
If you've been outside today, you have been forced to notice the power of the mid and upper level system
passing near and over the region today. The winds have been gusting over 30 miles an hour for several hours now in many locations throughout the region behind a strong cold front which is ushering in a new, fresh, and colder airmass. Last night, the weather wasn't so pleasant (as it has been today despite the winds), as the cold front approached the region. Winds of
60 miles per hour blew off roofs and toppled airplanes in Trenton, NJ, and
58 mile per hour winds were recorded in Elizabeth, New Jersey. A severe thunderstorm watch was issued overnight by the Storm Prediction Center, which verified nicely given the abundance of reports of trees down, and severe criteria wind gusts in the area. Through tonight, a slight chance of showers will continue, but the wind will be the main story, at least for the next few hours. Gusts in excess of 30 miles per hour could continue into tomorrow morning. Also, don't forget, you might still catch the end of the
Leonid meteor shower tonight should clear skies prevail.
