...Slight Risk for excessive heat this afternoon...
Temperatures this afternoon are forecast to climb into the upper 80's and lower 90's across areas of the New York City Metro, owing to the presence of a southwest flow amidst strong upper level ridging. A cold front remains well to our west and the flow of warm air will continue through this evening. The result will be temperatures approaching "hot" levels this afternoon for a few hours across the urban corridor of Northeast New Jersey...Central New Jersey..into New York City and possibly even Western Long Island. Temperatures are already at 90 F at Newark International Airport, and very near 90 F (89 F at the official observation) at Central Park.
Temperatures in both of these locales will likely reach/exceed 90 F this afternoon. Areas that do approach these levels will experience extremely warm to hot conditions..which may make it difficult to perform usual outdoor activities. Although it is not summer, we urge you to stay hydrated and be aware of the temperature..especially with the children and elderly. Temperatures are not expected to reach Excessive Heat Alert criteria, but will come quite close..especially for this time of year. Again, please remain abreast of the situation.
Temperatures will reach into the 80's once again tomorrow..followed by the approach of a cold front /and potential thunderstorms/ by afternoon and evening.
