A significant storm system continues to impact the forecast area this afternoon and is expected to continue into Sunday Night. The worst of the storms impact is over, though, and much of the area is still recovering. Many of the areas rivers have crested above flood stage, and small streams and creeks are well over their banks. Low lying areas continue to remain flooded. Several areas reported strong thunderstorms this morning, some with small hail...enough to cover the ground completely for several minutes. This storm is forming as a result of a large upper level system which continues to churn eastward from the Mid-Atlantic States to the Western Atlantic ocean. At the surface, a low pressure system moved off the Mid-Atlantic Coast into Southern New Jersey yesterday, and has since reformed southeast of Long Island.

More precipitation is expected to back into the region overnight Sunday into Monday with light to moderate rains continuing for a few more hours. After that, the storm system is expected to depart to our east, resulting in clearing conditions by Monday (although some showers will still be around) and more likely Tuesday.
