...Winter Storm Advisory in effect from 6pm Friday through 8pm Saturday...

A strong coastal low pressure will develop off the Mid Atlantic coast Friday into Saturday and traverse northeast before turning eastward. Heavy precipitation will spread northward towards New Jersey and the northern Mid-Atlantic region. However, strong high pressure and mid level confluence to the north, as well as the presence of a strong 150+ kt easterly 200-350mb jet will make it difficult for precipitation to reach much further north than Southeast New York.

Forecast guidance continues to struggle with the northward extent of precipitation. It is anticipated that the cutoff will be quite sharp north of New York City. Currently, it appears most reasonably that 2 to 5 inches of snow will fall across the advisory area with higher snow totals to the south and lower snow totals to the north and northeast. That said, a slight adjustment to the north or south in the track of the surface low pressure will have significant implications on the forecast. There is still significant uncertainty with this system. Please stay tuned for later updates.

...A winter storm advisory means that snow, sleet, or freezing rain will cause travel
difficulties or hazards. Travel may become extremely  hazardous for periods of time.  Visibilities may be lowered. Exercise caution if you must travel during the storm. Stay tuned for more updates...
