Beginning this 2009-2010 winter, the staff at New York Metro Weather will be organizing a New York Tri-State Area winter storm archive. Links will become available below with information linking to images, maps, and data archived from the system. The criteria for the impact scale are below. Please note that these are derived from a formula that takes into account snowfall totals, population, and travel impact.
Low: Minimal impact on travel, schools, and population.
Slight: Some travel impacts, some school delays or closings.
Moderate: Widespread travel impacts, some school and business closings, but not over a wide population area.
High: Widespread/severe travel impacts, widespread school and business closings. Affects a widespread population area.
Severe: Widespread and severe travel impacts, accidents, government and school closings, blizzard criteria met, totals over 20 inches in several locations. Rarely issued.
