It's been a generally wet pattern over the past few weeks and that will continue the middle of this week with the forecast calling for continued chances of precipitation (heaviest Wednesday morning and afternoon) as two coastal storms affect the area. The first exits stage right this afternoon along the frontal boundary to our east, as the second forms in the Southeast states. The radar image to the left shows the two systems, the first/weaker one affecting portions of Southern New England, while the other gains some steam in the Southeast. Forecast guidance is generally in good agreement regarding the eventual outcome of the second system, including surface and upper level low features intensity/track and precipitation amounts. The surface low over the MS Valley is forecast to progress northeast before transferring eastward off the Mid-Atlantic coastline as a shortwave trough moves northeast through the OH Valley.

The presence of the high pressure to the north will keep the low pressure from progressing to far north, and an analysis of the H85 low track shows a winter-like progression with a transfer off the coast and redevelopment thereafter. The sensible forecast will call for rain beginning again this evening and continuing into Wednesday morning. Heavy at times, the rain should taper off near or just before 00z, likely allowing Game 1 of the World Series to begin either on time or with a brief delay. Precipitation amounts could exceed 1 inch by the time the storm is over. We will continue to update throughout the evening and tomorrow morning with more guidance and storm information as it unfolds.
