It's been a rainy few days in the New York Metro area, including some snow north and west and in the higher elevations yesterday. The snow actually fell both at the start of the storm, thanks to a favorable ageostrophic flow to begin with and a resulting -20 to -25 departure in the attendant airmass, and during the height of the storm when favorable dynamics and cold air working in aloft translated to the mid levels allowing snowflakes to form and reach the surface. All the talk now, though, is on the weather for Game 1 of the ALCS at Yankee Stadium tonight when the Yankees welcome the LA Angels. The good news is, the area will be in between shortwave's and likely won't have to deal with any heavy or steady rain. The bad news is, a persistent northeasterly flow will likely allow for continued low level moisture, translating to drizzle or light rain. With temperatures in the 40's and winds gusting to 15 mph, the game conditions will be less than ideal for baseball. Still, we aren't looking at a rain out so the Yankees will more than likely play tonight. We will have another update this afternoon as we get a better look at things. Also, stay tuned for more posts on the upcoming pattern both in the next few days, and in the next few weeks on this busy weather day in our area.
