Area Forecast Discussion

Clearing skies take over tonight on the backside of the system that pounded the area last night with a quick burst of ice followed by heavy rain. This significantly reduced the areas snowcover. Temperatures today warmed up to numbers we havent seen in over a month. However, this will be short lived. There is another storm system on the heels of last nights..and it could dump some snow on the area. Models originally had the system surpressed and south of the area. However, models are now pushing the storm north, picking up on a partial phase feature. Another important thing to notice here is the ridging in the SE on the models that have the storm going north. This sortof scrunches our storm northward. This is important, because otherwise the system will slide away. Being that we are close to 48 hours away from the system..if tonights 00z model runs continue a northward trend, we will upgrade to Winter Storm Alert. However, right now confidence is very low regarding this system. Either way, the chances are there Sunday and Sunday night for an accumulating snow, especially in the southern zones. System will be reviewed once again tomorrow morning.
