A storm system well out to sea will scrape coastal areas with some light precipitation overnight, but by the middle of the day on Saturday most areas should be cleared out. A fresh, new, and cold airmass will build in as high pressure from Canada nose-dives towards the region. Some of the coldest air of the past several weeks will be in place, which will be the story especially Saturday Night into Sunday morning, as temperatures will drop well below the freezing mark in many locations overnight for the first time in a while. The upper 20's temperatures will be quite widespread--even into the city on most forecast models. An airmass this cold hasn't really been around since late October, after the early-season snowstorm which impacted the region on October 29th. However, the airmass this time will be in and out, with temperatures warming up towards normal once again by the beginning of next week. Still, you will definitely feel the winter time chill in the air if you're out and about on Saturday and Sunday! Pictured right: NAM model's forecast low temperatures on Saturday Night/Sunday Morning in the area, showing low temperatures in the 20's and even the teens inland.

THE FORECAST AT A GLANCE (updated Saturday evening)...

Today (Sunday): Sunny and cold. High near 40. West winds around 5 mph. Probably the coldest day since last winter (thus far). It will feel chilly out there for sure, especially considering the fact that our last day with temperatures similar to this came back in October!

Sunday Night: Clear. Low near 32. Calm winds. A bit warmer than Saturday night, but we can't say for sure that you'll notice the 2-4 degree difference. Still plenty chilly out there.

Monday: Not as cold. Sunny. High near 47. South winds around 5 mph.
