Christmas To Be Rained On?

Well we have gotten one day closer to the holiday weekend, and the forecast continues to fluctuate each day. Models have been all over the place as too the precipitation, and timing. As we have gotten closer, we have determined one thing. It will not be a White Christmas for the Tri-State Area. However, there is a possibility of a storm system affecting the area on Christmas Day. Lets take a look at what the latest models are printing out in regards to this system.

Heres todays 18z GFS Run. You can clearly see the southern stream energy separated from the northern stream energy. What does this mean? Firstly, the system gets less cold air as the trough cant dig far enough south. Secondly, this ends chances for any sort of Nor'Easter. The southern stream energy flies away from the northern stream, allowing for the northern stream to continue on without any interaction. This situation leads to rain, and even the Nor'Easter situation leads to Rain.

In conclusion, it seems at this time that rain is extremely likely near or around Chritmas. So prepare for possible wet conditions late Christmas Day. Timing should be intresting, but it looks like Christmas morning will be mostly dry and cloudy.
