Winter temperatures finally settled into the area this weekend, behind a cold front which passed the area towards the tail end of last week. This fair settled in on Saturday and Sunday, bringing overnight lows below freezing to the entire area...and teens in the interior. This airmass will remain in place through the first half of the new week, as a high pressure remains settled in over the Northeast United States. The cold air, however, won't stick around with as much ferocity as the airmass modifies over the region. What does this mean?  Without getting too technical, the airmass is sitting over our area for three to five days. However, it's original source was North-Central Canada, hence the cold and dry air. After a few days sitting over our area, the warm ocean and general location allows the airmass to modify without any new source of cold air. So, generally cooler temperatures will become more average temperatures by the middle of the week with high temperatures warming into the 40's and then near 50. Finally, by Thursday, it looks like the high pressure will be shunted to the east as a low pressure area moves to our west. This will likely introduce warmer temperatures and a chance of showers to the forecast before the weekend. THE FORECAST AT A GLANCE...

Tonight (Sunday Night): Clear. Low near 32. Calm winds. A few degrees warmer than last night, but still pretty cold if you ask us! Bundle up.

Monday: Not as cold. Sunny. High near 47. South winds around 5 mph. High temperatures definitely feeling a hint warmer. Winds turning south--allowing some warmer air to seep in.

Tuesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 48. Overnight low near 34.  The warming trend continues, but slows a bit. Generally the same idea as Monday with temperatures near average for this time of year.
