Tornado Touchdown: The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touchdown on Friday afternoon in Goshen, NY, just a day after residents speculated that wind damage may have been that of a tornado. In the local storm report, the text reads "Widespread downed trees lying in different directions, possible tornado". You can read all the details on the tornado touchdown right here. To sum up the event, the tornado was a confirmed EF-1 with a maximum wind speed near 100 miles per hour. The tornado traveled 2.1 miles, with the path reaching as wide as 100 yards (relatively thin). The tornado came after the Storm Prediction Center had issued a Slight Risk for severe weather earlier in the day, and a Tornado Watch in the afternoon...warning of the potential for isolated tornadoes within severe thunderstorms which were tracking southeastward through the area.
Future looks bright: If you're looking into the future weather pattern, we have nothing but good news. The general weather pattern should continue to remain above average with temperatures, and slightly below normal with regards to precipitation, as a ridge in the mid levels of the atmosphere continues to fluctuate. The best chance for precipitation may come next Thursday as a weak front nears the area, but generally the week looks dry and warm, with temperatures topping out in the low 90's for highs.
