Although the early stages of the month of June were incredibly warm (remember the heat wave early in the month?), the latter half of the month has been relatively "normal" by average standards, with temperature departures just short of +1 over the last two weeks. In fact, the extreme heat of the first half of the month has been almost completely mitigated by the below average departures that we experienced on 11 days this month. The monthly departures throughout the area are about 1-2 degrees above average. Still warm, but noticeably cooler than we expected given the first few weeks.
All of that said, the summer time warmth and above average temperatures look to return later this week, this weekend, and early next week through Independence Day. Forecast models are indicative of temperatures in the mid levels of the atmosphere near 20 C, which mixes down to the surface to average highs in the low to mid 90's. The warmer days should come this weekend into the early stages of next week, before a cold front moves through. Until then, temperatures will still be warm, with high's in the 80's.
