New York Metro Weather has issued a Winter Storm Advisory for Sussex, Warren, Hunterdon, Passaic, Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Somerset, Middlesex, Monmouth, Mercer, Ocean, Burlington, and Union counties in New Jersey...Orange, Rockland, Putnam, Westchester, Manhattan, Bronx, Kings, Queens, Richmond, Nassau, and Suffolk Counties in New York...and Fairfield, New Haven, and Litchfield counties in Connecticut. This Winter Storm Advisory is valid from 12:00am Friday morning through 5:00pm Friday evening. A Winter Storm Advisory is issued when forecasters expect a moderate snowfall to occur over a period of time, which may cause travel difficulties or delays. During periods of heavier snow, travel may become increasingly difficult, especially if snow accumulates rapidly. *Accumulations...Total storm accumulations should range from 2 to 5 inches across most of the area, with locally higher amounts of 3 to 6 inches.
*Impact...Travel may be difficult during the snow especially during the Friday morning commute.
*Timing...The snow is expected to develop Thursday Night and early Friday from southwest to northeast, and move quickly northeast. The more moderate snowfall may occur early Friday during the morning commute. The snow is then expected to end from west to east by Friday afternoon.

A mid and upper level storm system will move near and over the region Thursday Night into Friday, aiding in the development of a weak coastal storm off the coast of New Jersey. Light to moderate snow will overspread the region Thursday night, and increase in intensity somewhat Friday morning. The snow is then forecast to move eastward rather quickly, ending across far Western and Southern NJ by later Friday morning. The snow should continue for a few more hours across New York City, Connecticut and Long Island before ending Friday afternoon. In general, most areas should receive 2 to 5 inches of new snow..with locally higher amounts of 3 to 6 inches possible.
