It's safe to say winter is back in the area, especially after a cold front moved through the area this morning and afternoon. Temperatures this afternoon topped out in the upper 30's to lower 40's in the warmest spots, where yesterday they were reaching into the 60's ahead of the cold front. Where rain fell and drenched many areas, snow is now falling as the storm system pulls north of our area. Heavy rain is still ongoing over Northeast New England, but for the next several hours we can expect the development of scattered areas of snow showers or light snow through the evening and overnight hours. Areas that sit underneath these bands of snow could see light accumulations on grass or cars--and possibly even paved surfaces--but nothing major. As far as tonight, we are expecting mostly cloudy skies in areas that don't receive light snow; which is unfortunate for those who were hoping to view the  2010 Geminid Meteor shower peak tonight. Tomorrow (Tuesday) is expected to be one of the coldest days of the year, with high's barely reaching into the mid 20's and snow showers possible throughout the day. The possibility exists for some more wintry weather by later in the week (more on this later), but for now bundle up! Forecast: Northeast regional radar courtesy of weathertap, showing the area of light snow as of 7:00pm December 13th, 2010.

Tonight (Monday Night): Mostly cloudy, with a chance of snow showers or light snow. Low temperatures near 20 degrees, in the teens further inland away from the city. Any snow accumulations should be light. Winds west northwest between 11 and 15 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tuesday: Partly to mostly cloudy, with a chance of snow showers or light snow. High tempeartures in the mid 20's, lower 20's inland. Winds out of the west northwest at 10 to 15 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
