...Flooding rains possible this weekend across the entire area...

A strong upper level system over the Central United States will develop eastward towards the area by Friday and Saturday. A southerly flow will develop, aiding in the transport of moisture from the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico. A strengthening low pressure system, upper level dynamics, and an uncharacteristically moist atmosphere for this time of year will lead to the potential for very heavy rains. The heaviest rains are expected to occur Saturday into Sunday morning, although rains may begin at any point Friday and continue into Sunday. There is the potential for 3 to 4 inches of rain with this system, with higher amounts in isolated locations.

The snow pack (mostly in elevated areas), and wet ground elsewhere, will more than likely cause significant flooding of low lying areas as well as urban areas and small streams. If the higher rain amounts verify, more severe flooding problems may surface. Please stay tuned for further updates as the system draws near.

...A Flood Watch means that significant periods of heavy rain are possible and that flooding is a possibility based on latest forecasts within the noted time period. Please keep abreast of the situation and stay tuned for further updates...
