Winter Storm Advisory
4:45pm February 25th, 2010

...This is not an official National Weather Service product and should not be confused for an official watch, warning or advisory...

In New York: Eastern Suffolk

In Connecticut: Litchfield, New Haven

...Winter Storm Advisory in effect from 8am Thursday through 8am Saturday...

A strong coastal low pressure will develop off the Mid Atlantic coast Thursday into Friday and then rapidly deepen as it turns northwestward towards Eastern Long Island. The low will then pull northwest towards Connecticut Friday.

Precipitation is expected to begin mid day Thursday as a mix of snow and rain across the Winter Storm Advisory area. The track of the system will help to bring a strengthening warm low level flow which will change precipitation over to rain for a period of time during the height of the storm. Still, generally 4 to 8 inches of snow is expected to fall across the Winter Storm Advisory area by the time the storm is finished. After the rain..a changeover back to snow is expected with some additional accumulation possible.

Any waiver in the track of this system will have significant impacts on the snowfall totals across the area. Some models have been trending eastward and colder this afternoon, while some remain too warm for significant snow. Significant uncertainty does still exist. Snow is expected to taper off by later Friday into Saturday although light snow showers could continue.

...A winter storm advisory means that snow, sleet, or freezing rain will cause travel
difficulties or hazards. Travel may become extremely  hazardous for periods of time.  Visibilities may be lowered. Exercise caution if you must travel during the storm. Stay tuned for more updates...
